Suzanne Parry (b.1980) grew up in Cornwall, leaving to study composition at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She achieved a first class degree and having received a PRS Foundation Scholarship, went on to gain a Masters degree with distinction. Suzanne won several college trophies, and her orchestral portfolio was recorded by BBC National Orchestra of Wales. After successfully representing RWCMD at the Conservatoire Composers Forum in 2002 she made her London début in the Purcell Rooms at The State of the Nation Festival. After graduating Suzanne became Associate Composer at Music Theatre Wales where she met composer Nigel Osborne, who invited her to pursue a Ph.D. at The University of Edinburgh. Having secured a scholarship Suzanne moved to Edinburgh in 2006 and has since become an active member of the thriving Scottish arts scene. After graduating in 2011 she has continued her relationship with the university through her role as Composition Tutor.
The first piece she completed in Scotland opened the 2007 International Conference on Music Since 1900, and since then she has enjoyed working widely in theatre, dance and concert music. She has been fortunate to work for a breadth of clients, including Diversions Dance Company, Articulate Animal, Music Theatre Wales, Chapter Arts Centre, Andrea Severa Dance, Ensemble 360, PM Ensemble, Millennium Ensemble, The Edinburgh Quartet, Theatre in the Mill, Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble, Linlithgow Ladies Choir, Artisan Trio, Hebrides Ensemble and The Stove. Her music has also been featured in broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Suzanne work is gaining recognition in America after being featured in a 2012 International Women in Music concert series in Columbia, USA. In 2014 she was proud to win an International Call for Scores from California’s Veridian Symphony Orchestra.
Suzanne continues her journey of balancing a life between her life as a wife, mother of two, composer, educator and public speaker. A welcome addition to her portfolio career has been taking a contract as a Skills Development Consultant at Glasgow University's Graduate School of Arts. Her work in this post is focused on bridging the gap between academia and practitioner, and providing arts researchers targeted mentorship. As for her own work, Suzanne's interests have turned to collaborative practice, multimedia and project-based enterprises. The last two years has yielded high profile commissions with Scottish Chamber Orchestra which engage with the wider community. In 2017 Sounding out the Past was commissioned for the Borders Heritage Festival and this year she has worked with W.H.A.L.E and on audio visual installation Incredible Distance.
